Abstract:
Urban freight is a growing challenge for cities. Some local administrations have decided to be part of the solution and analyze possible measures to lighten the negative effects that come with this essential economic activity. Inside STRAIGHTSOL project, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat is one of the municipalities trying to test new measures. The first step was to obtain updated data of the problems and specifics of urban freight transport; a survey was developed during the first trimester of 2012. We present the results of this thorough survey among most of the retailers in two of the neighbourhoods: centre and Sant Josep. The results are descriptive but may help to provide a better understanding of freight transport in similar areas. Then, following the course of the demonstration, we go a little further analyzing the results, the generation factors are compared with previous ones and the adequacy of an Urban Consolidation for the municipality given the features of their demand is studied.
