Abstract
The objectives of the project were the development of a decision making tool (simulation tool) to improve the mobility of Barcelona and traffic light optimization. It provides a framework for the evaluation of the mobility measures to achieve sustainable mobility. On the other hand it allows a better traffic light regulation to improve public transport, private vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle mobility. The tool is based on a macroscopic and microscopic model. It will simulate the set of different modes of transport of the city, including the traffic light, public transport, private vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle. The architecture of the tool is based on the integration and improvement of some of the software currently in the market.
The team at CENIT provided the following services:
- Definition of scenarios and execution of them with the subsequent analysis of the results.
- Development of external applications to implement automations and complex external functionalities, such as optimization of traffic light configuration.
- Preparation of results reports and user manuals and installation of the simulation tool.
- Simulation of the set of different modes of transport within the city, including traffic lights, public transport, private vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle.

Hubs for Last Mile Delivery Solutions (Project HALLO)
The HALLO project seeks to create shared urban consolidation and distribution centres (UCDCs) through a pilot case implemented at the Low Emission Zone in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and four complementary initiatives in Stockholm consisting of: (a) fossil-fuel free logistics in the district of Södermalm, (b) innovative delivery solutions across Stockholm, (c) plan and test a...
Assessment of the mobility effects of the Barcelona Low Emissions Zone from 2020
In the last decade, the city of Barcelona has suffered a considerable increase in air pollution levels. As a first response to the reduction of pollution, from 1 January 2020 the Low Emissions Zone will be applied, with restrictions on certain vehicles entering the city. The main objective of this project was to analyse the impact on mobility from a short, medium and long-term perspective. CENIT...
Shared micro depots for urban pickup and delivery
Urban space is becoming more and more limited. For logistics service providers, retailers, and even urban residents, the last mile delivery of goods further exacerbates the congestion of these urban spaces. “Shared micro depots for urban pickup and delivery” (SMUD) addresses today’s inefficient space utilization and pollution prevention approaches. SMUDs provide a publicly acceptable solution to...
Variable Speed Limit System for Northern access to the city of Barcelona
In the northern part of the city of Barcelona there is a significant concentration of high-capacity roads, causing problems of congestion and air and noise pollution. The main objective of the project was to define general guidelines for a system that dynamically suggests speed limits in order to reduce congestion and the environmental impact of the traffic. The team at CENIT provided the...
Handbook for the purchase of duty vehicles for different propulsion technologies
To reduce GHG emissions for road transport, it is necessary to focus on technological advances and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In response to these needs we have seen the appearance of freight vehicles in the market with alternative energies, such as electric and gas. CENIT developed a handbook with guidelines for the acquisition of freight vehicles with alternative energies to fossil...

EnerNETMob – Mediterranean Interregional Electromobility Networks for intermodal systems and multimodal connections
EnerNETMob aims to draft, test and improve parallel “Sustainable Electromobility Plans” according to common standards and low carbon emission policies, in order to set an “Interregional Electromobility Network” crossing cities of all the Interreg MED area. The project promotes sharing mobility and land-sea intermodality using electric transport systems, by implementing interurban and...

Impact assessment of an e-commerce delivery tax proposal
The main objective of the project was to define the basic parameters that should govern the establishment of a tax on electronic commerce in order to encourage more efficient behaviour from the environmental point of view of the consumer. The report calculated the amount of tax and a first estimate of the effects on online consumer demand, as well as other aspects of implementation, such as the...
