In the northern part of the city of Barcelona there is a significant concentration of high-capacity roads, causing problems of congestion and air and noise pollution. The main objective of the project was to define general guidelines for a system that dynamically suggests speed limits in order to reduce congestion and the environmental impact of the traffic.

The team at CENIT provided the following services:

  • Technical approach to the problem taking into account specific constraints.
  • Development of traffic simulation for the zone, including all relevant items of infrastructure, traffic demand and mechanisms for the calibration and validation of the model (adjustment of parameters) and KPI definition.
  • Design, implementation and test of the variable speed limit algorithm.
  • Running simulations, obtaining results and conclusions.
